and that's that.

Well, the playoffs are over for me, but I gotta give the Wings credit. Game 6 of the Western Conference Final for the first Lidstrom-led Wings team ain't too shabby, especially for a team that wasn't supposed to make the postseason at all with the loss of Yzerman and Shanahan.

Now I'm just rooting for the Sens to annihilate the Ducks. I just don't want to see Chris Pronger ever raise the Cup.

bruce is hungry like the wolf.

The incomparable Mr. Campbell has a new Old Spice commercial. If possible, this one's even better than the last.

my kingdom for a font!

I'm beginning to realize that searching for specific (free) font designs is a frustrating endeavor. Fonts.com has the kind of font that I'm looking for, but I'm not willing to pay $22.00 for a single font. A clip art package I just purchased has a bunch of fonts included with it, but that's at home right now, right along with my DVD archive of collected fonts, where it's obviously doing me no good. Even Google searches for "building block font" (including all its variant search forms) yield nothing substantial.

Wait, what the hell am I doing? Complaining about a font? I have issues.

well, the wings lost last night...

But this is still pretty sweet...

is it time for me to give up on network tv?

Well, I just read today that Jericho has been canceled.

Why is it whenever I really, really get into a show, it gets killed off? This happens every friggin' time. Reunion, Vanished, and long ago, Key West. Those three shows were on FOX, so unfortunately, I've come to expect it from that network. But Jericho was the only show I've watched on CBS in years...and, knowing their programming, probably the last I'll watch on CBS for years to come. Fucking stupid network execs. I guess it's no surprise that most of my television watching is on cable, where expectations are infinitely lower, meaning a show has to really bomb to get canned.

the elderly are fighting at the post office!

I'm not kidding with the title of this one either. I went down to the Convent Station post office to mail a few things and upon entering, there were two elderly people having a rather heated argument.

Apparently while at the counter, an elderly woman had asked the postal employee to explain the new 'Forever' stamps (introduced with the newest postage rate hike). Nothing wrong with that, right? But an elderly man took exception to this woman's "wasting everyone's time asking stupid questions" and started berating her. And then he played the whole, "I graduated Magna Cum Laude from Harvard Medical! I'm the most knowledgeable and important person in Convent Station!" Then he just continued to berate the woman telling her how stupid she is and so on.You know how you're supposed to respect your elders? Once he pulled the "I'm better than you!" card, all respect is gone. Everything else that followed just cemented that.

Everyone else in the line - young and old - must have shared my sentiment, because everyone was rolling their eyes and laughing to themselves at this sad old man who is obviously sooooooo much more important than the rest of us, but still has to wait in line at a little post office in New Jersey like the rest of us peons.

Fun way to begin a Monday morning, eh?

game two, tonight.

I've noticed that my playoff beard this year is actually noticeable as a beard. Mind you, the past few seasons, the Wings haven't gone deep enough for me to even have a chance to grow anything even remotely resembling a beard. The last time I would have had that chance was back in 2002 when the Wings last won the Cup; I was 22 then and I don't remember having quite the facial hair growth that I do now. Could just be faulty memory, but more likely, it's that my facial-hair-hormone-whatever decided to actually kick in for the rest of my face and not just the goatee area.

In any case, Game 2 is tonight in Detroit. Give your moms a gift tonight, boys. Win and take a 2-0 lead in the series.

western conference finals, game 1...

Puck drops at 7:30pm tonight and once again, I expect my blood pressure to shoot through the roof. I'll be lucky to make it through this post-season without a full-blown cardiac arrest. Don't get me wrong, though - I'm thrilled as hell that the Wings have made it this far. It's just hell on my nerves! And now, for the positive mojo...

stanley cup playoffs, conference finals predictions...

Wow, I didn't call to well in that last round. Only got Ottawa right. Glad I got San Jose wrong, though. I'm superstitious though, so don't be surprised with these picks...

Western Conference
Detroit (1) vs.
Anaheim (2) - Anaheim in five. (It worked the first two times...)

Eastern Conference
Buffalo (1) vs.
Ottawa (4) - Buffalo in five.

Eastern Conference Finals start tomorrow. Western Conference Finals start on Friday.

500th post!

In honor of my heroes from this past round of the playoffs, I decided to put a little something together. A fitting 500th blog post, wouldn't you say?

VICTORY!!!

WE'RE GOING TO THE WESTERN CONFERENCE FINALS!!!!!!!!!!

WE'RE GOING TO THE WESTERN CONFERENCE FINALS!!!!!!!!!!

HELL YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

your regularly scheduled monday rant...

Two weeks ago, my department delivered an LCD projector to a group on campus for a Friday night event with the promise that they would secure it after the event and return it to my office by 9:00am Monday morning.

It didn't show up until the afternoon, by which point its non-presence had severely inconvenienced both me and other groups on campus during the day. That group is no longer allowed to borrow the projector for late evening events until further notice.

Last Friday evening, we delivered an LCD projector for a Friday night departmental function, once again with the promise that they would secure it after the event and return it to my office by 9:00am Monday morning.

Guess what? It's 1:05pm and it's still not here. We finally got ahold of the person responsible for the projector and the response was, "Ohhhhhh, my daughter has it, she's on campus." No apology, no good reason for why the projector wasn't back in our hands at 9:00am as was agreed to - nothing. Thankfully, the projector isn't needed until 5:15pm tonight, but this is just ridiculous. These aren't elementary school kids forgetting to return their copy of "The Pet Goat" to the library - these are grown adults, college faculty and adjuncts that can't seem to keep a promise of returning a $3,000 piece of equipment at the proper time. So, as a result, that department's barred from using the projector for late evening events as well for the time being.

Am I crazy for expecting at least a shred of accountability from these people?

game 6...the end?

Okay, I don't want to get too far ahead of myself, but it's entirely possible that the Wings could clinch their 2nd round series tonight in San Jose. They managed to clinch against Calgary on the road, so it's not out of the realm of possibility that they could do it in San Jose as well. But I'm still nervous as hell. I don't want a Game 7. My nerves really couldn't take that. Finish them off tonight, guys. Please.

Now, back to writing my incredibly dull and potentially nonsensical paper that's due for my Contemporary Film Studies class on Thursday. Only about 2 and 2/3 pages left. Whee.

a great day of playoff hockey.

The Wings won today to take a 3-2 lead in their series; only one more win and they're in the Western Conference Finals for the first time since 2002 (the last year they won the Cup).

And in the Eastern Conference, the Devils got eliminated tonight with Ottawa winning the series 4-1. Congrats to Lou Lamoriello for thinking he could do the job behind the bench better than Claude Julien. He's gotta be laughing his ass off at you now, Lou.

Game 6 against the Sharks on Monday. Clinch it, boys.
