day...two, is it?

After getting only two and a half hours of sleep last night and spending the entire day at the convention center from 7am to about 11:30pm (with the exception of the two and a half hours at Hasbro), I'm amazed I still know what day it is. Uhm. Friday, right?

Hasbro tour: Really, really neat. Saw a lot of prototypes that will never see a store shelf, development sketches for the film, design processes for the Transformers toys and so on. Took lots of pics.

Extra con exclusive figures: I waited a total of four hours in line for those four damn figures - two before the Hasbro tour, at which point I had to leave the line (being only six back in the queue) to board the bus for the tour and then two after the tour. I got extremely lucky that it wasn't another hour - I was the last person to get to the counter before they had to take a break to move everything into the dealer room. Got the con exclusive figures of Springer, Huffer, Weirdwolf and Alpha Trion, along with a couple Botcon t-shirts (one for me, one for my mom as she requested).

Dealer room: Yes, the dealer room opened up today. I spent too much money. But I managed to get the Alternators Rumble I was looking for for only $30, WST Starscream for $12 and picked up a couple of the Botcon/Hasbro Toy Shop exclusive Pepsi Optimus Prime for $24.99 apiece (one of them's for someone who couldn't attend the con).

After all that? A delicious dinner and Dave and Buster's through which Ti and I played pool and enjoyed our burgers (and I enjoyed my extremely large Sam Adams Boston Lager). He beat me three games to one. Damn Brits.

Final bit of the evening - MSTF. Basically, if you know MST3K, imagine it being done to the original (feels weird saying that now) Transformers movie by three guys with microphones. Funny, but I was exhausted so I'm not sure if I caught most of the second half. When Megatron blasts through the shuttle hull in the beginning, a Kool-Aid Man "OH YEAH!" was blurted out, which I'll remember every time I watch that damn movie now.

Bedtime. Gotta be back up again around 9-ish. Panels tomorrow.

Oh yeah. I also got a pic with Optimus Prime. Heh heh.

five words.

GIANT.

FUCKING.

ROBOTS.

ARE.

REAL.

That is all. (I have to be up in about three and a half hours!)

end of day, uh, minus-one...

Okay, Botcon hasn't technically started yet, so I can't really say that today was 'Day One', but it was still a good day nonetheless. Met up with some fellow Transfans, had dinner at Quiznos, did a bit of Transformer hunting at Wal-Mart and Target, the latter being where I found the last two G1 Robot Heroes sets that I needed (Optimus Prime w/ Matrix & Unicron, Jazz & Thundercracker) and then after they returned from package pickup/registration (I'm not scheduled until tomorrow evening to get my figures, badge, etc.), we had a rousing game of Mario Party on the Wii - my first experience playing a Wii, mind you.

And now I want one, dammit. Curse you, Nintendo!

Tomorrow's schedule is pretty much open for me until I have to register in the evening and then following that, it's the biggie - the charity screening of the new Transformers movie. Needless to say, I'm stoked. After that, I'm unsure if I'll be able to get much sleep, because early, early the following morning, me and one of the other guys here are in a group to tour Hasbro - and we have to meet up at the designated location by 7am. After the movie screening starting the previous night at 10:30 and all the excitement that carries over after that...well, I may need to go out and get a few more Red Bulls tomorrow.

For now, though, sleep is calling.

i have arrived!

Yep, I'm in Massachusetts right now, about 7 miles away from the convention center for Botcon.

Uhm. I guess that's all for now. Carry on.

...and i'm off!

In just a few minutes, I'll be departing for Botcon. It's a fun, fun, four-hour drive. I'll be blogging throughout the rest of the week and the weekend...

Finally updated my profile page with links to pics of my tats, including the brand new additions to the Transformer ones on my biceps. Check 'em out.

i think i might want this.

But I may not be geeky enough.

countdown to vacation...

It's almost here. I'll be on two weeks of vacation effectively starting next Monday and then I depart for Botcon in Rhode Island early Wednesday morning. Two weeks of no FDU. Forget the fact that it's Botcon and that I'll be getting a tour of Hasbro and I'll be seeing the new Transformers movie before the July 3rd release date. NO WORK! I think that's what excites me most right now. Some geek I am, right?

And on another smaller note, I have once again made the computer in my office my bitch. Total pwnage.

flagpole sitta

Normally, I'm not into fan-created music vids...but there's something just so damn fun about this one. They did it all in one take and on the first take, to boot. Enjoy.

for the last @#$%ing time...

Okay, I don't want to have to say it again...

THIS is an overhead projector:

THIS is an LCD projector:

Still confused?

From Wikipedia:

An overhead projector typically consists of a large box containing a very bright lamp and a fan to cool it off, on top of which is a large lens that collimates the light. Above the box, typically on a long arm, is a mirror that redirects the light forward instead of up.

Transparencies are placed on top of the lens for display. The light from the lamp travels though the transparency and into the mirror where it is shone forward onto a screen for display. The mirror allows both the presenter and the audience to see the image at the same time, the presenter looking down at the transparency as if writing, the audience looking forward at the screen.

Also from Wikipedia:

An LCD projector is a type of video projector for displaying video, images or computer data on a screen or other flat surface. It is the modern equivalent of the slide projector or overhead projector.

Got it?

If you ask for an overhead projector and expect an LCD projector, that's like asking for a pencil and expecting a Uni-Ball fine point pen. They're NOT THE SAME THING.

Just because an LCD projector is sometimes mounted on a ceiling does NOT make it an overhead projector! The portable projectors are always wheeled in on a cart. Does that seem "over head" to you? Argh!

Of course, my favorite instance of this was when someone requested a slide projector and then called to ask, "But where do I plug in my laptop?"

TERMINOLOGY IS IMPORTANT. Seriously. I don't know how else to state it more clearly.

Ugh.

You have no idea how glad I am that I have a bottle of Savignon Blanc chilling for me at home. I'm gonna have to chug that sucker when I leave work today
