halloween in the daytime?

Can someone tell me when trick-or-treating started taking place at 5:00pm?

I remember when I was little, we'd be out around 7:00pm or at the very least, when it was dark. The sun's still shining outside right now and on my way home from work, I already saw kids being paraded door-to-door for candy. This just doesn't make sense to me, even for the really little kids.

First of all, it's not dark out.

Trick-or-treating is supposed to take place in the dark! I remember all those nicely decorated houses with spooky sounds and the like, made to look and sound like haunted houses. That doesn't quite have the same effect when the sun is still right overhead. Not to mention that a costume that looks typically scary in the dark can have a tendency to look latex-y and lame in broad daylight.

Secondly, the majority of people work from 9 to 5, meaning that they're not going to get home until 5:30 or 6:00.

These kids that are being dragged out now are going to find more unoccupied homes than candy-bearing ones. Just doesn't seem fair. At least wait another hour or so and let people get home so they can actually hand out the candy. Or just wait until it gets dark out, like it's supposed to be for Halloween.

I don't even really like Halloween anymore (at 28, I think I've outgrown it by more than a decade), but geez, these kids deserve better.

A great talent, he'll really be missed.

Here's a little taste of something rather recent that he did. Tell me this isn't hilarious.

a gold star for pnc bank!

I like financial institutions that are looking out for me.

You see, I recently made a purchase through Adobe Software for a copy of the Creative Suite 3 Production Premium pack along with Dreamweaver CS3 and of course, that's going to be a high dollar amount purchase. Understandably, the red flags went up at PNC.

So they just gave me a call in my office to confirm that the purchase was, indeed, made by me. I know it's not a big deal, but I appreciate stuff like that. And aside from that...w00t! Adobe CS3!

no no no no no!

I can't even tell you how many calls I've received today that were intended for the film department here.

"Instructional Media Center" does not equal the film department! I do not deal with their students. I do not have a listing of all their faculty members and no matter how many times you call, I'm not taking the time out of my day to read you through the list of all their faculty members, especially when I don't know them all! It's not my goddamn department, comprendre?

Jeez.

listening skillz.

Sometimes I wonder why I have a voicemail greeting on my office line if no one's going to listen to it.

Greeting: "...and the office is closed on Saturday and Sunday."
Saturday caller: "I need someone down here right away!"

Uh.

And then I still have people that think faxing something on a Saturday - again, when we're closed - for a Monday morning class is perfectly acceptable.

And for more fun today, I got a message from someone wondering where their projector was. A projector that they didn't request. And a projector that isn't available today (or on Wednesday, when they allegedly requested another one) because it's booked out.

Responsibility FTW!

WORLD SERIES, BABY!!!

donations accepted.

Anyone want to help me start up MetlifeSucks.com? The MetLife website is atrocious and totally non-useful and their claims agents are beyond non-helpful. Here's an exchange that Danielle had on the phone with them, regarding a claim on which we've been getting jerked around.

Danielle: "I'm just calling to see if you received my faxed claim."
Stupid Ass Agent: "It usually takes ten to fifteen business days to proc-"
D: "No, I just want to know if you received my fax. That's all."
SAA: "It usually takes ten to fif-"
D: "Can't you just tell me if you've received my claim? This is the third time we've sent it in."
SAA: "Well, you could also mail-"
D: "We did mail it the first time and it got processed under the wrong doctor's name. Then we faxed it in two weeks ago and didn't receive confirmation that it was received." (On the fax cover sheet, I requested that I receive phone or e-mail confirmation that it was received, since I was paranoid about further incompetence. -K)
SAA: "Well, the only claim I see here is under (wrong doctor's name)..."

And so on.

Basically, what happened is that they processed my claim with a different SS#, which then essentially gave me someone else's checks under some other doctor's treatment. MetLife initially insisted that it was the doctor's fault and not theirs, despite this being a huge coincidence I would get claim checks for the wrong doctor shortly after having submitted my own claim. Eventually, it was revealed that it was MetLife's screw up (as we suspected).

Now it's just a big game of sending in the claim forms again and again, with copies of the erroneous checks attached, crossing our fingers that someone will actually process the damn thing. As of right now, the claim has been submitted a grand total of three times. The first time, MetLife screwed it up. The second time...well, who knows what the hell happened to that fax? And the third time? Well, apparently the fax machine ate that one too.

Anybody else out there have MetLife for their dental and have had to deal with this kind of garbage service?
