welcome back, d-mac!
Darren McCarty is officially a Red Wing again!
Now I feel especially wise buying a D-Mac jersey on the cheap back when he got bought out by the Wings and went to the Flames.

this is what a snow day looks like.
Sorry for the screens in the pics, I had no intention of actually opening the windows. It's cold and windy out there.

another blast from the past.
I was just messing with the Wayback Archive, looking up what I could for old incarnations of my website (wow, I used to be really lame with web design) and actually snagged some old images, including what is one of my earliest cam pics (which I may add to a 2002 pulldown on the cam page) and an old animated gif I made early in the days of edicius.org, back when my actual personal stuff was relegated to www.edicius.org/rendering and not the main domain. I may post some of it later if I get the urge.

oh, almost forgot...

lockdown update.
Just saw an updated article on that whole lockdown-over-a-tripod nonsense from my last entry and it turns out that it was a friggin' microphone stand that the kid was carrying. Wow. I carry microphone stands around nearly every day here and I've never incited a lockdown. I guess I better beware.

tripod? lockdown!
Remember that lockdown at Sheridan College in Ontario last week? A liberal arts college with a large number of students enrolled in video/animation classes?
Apparently, the "gunman" was more like a "tripodman".
So many students carry around tripods here at FDU that I wouldn't be surprised if we have a similar false panic here. Hell, I carry around tripods a lot for my video jobs (in tripod bags, no less) and I'm surprised I haven't gotten stopped and accused of carrying a rifle or something. The metal case in which my newer camera resides looks like it could house ammo, scopes and so on.
Just waiting for it...
i had taco bell, i really had it.
Okay, so I had some Taco Bell last night. Which hopefully means that my craving for fast food can be curbed for another month and a half or so. If I can treat fast food as I do soda now (every once in a great while), I may actually be able to finally drop below 200 lbs.
Also, well wishes for Richard Zednik. Hope he recovers fully.

i want taco bell. i really, really want it.
I made a sort of unofficial New Year's resolution when 2008 started and thus far, I've held up to it pretty faithfully - minimize my consumption of fast food. You see, when I'd be out making a run to Staples or the pharmacy on the way home from work and I felt hungry, the urge to grab an item or two off the McDonald's or Burger King dollar menus would strike. This became especially easy if I had a couple bucks in my wallet, as I don't normally carry cash on me.
But so far, I haven't done so in 2008 - and believe me, I've been tempted. I love Taco Bell. McDonald's fries and double cheeseburgers are delicious. But I was just snacking on them way too much. Not so much that it was every day (like I did in Michigan for a period of time), but enough to make an impact on my waistline. Hopefully I can keep it up and treat fast food the same way I do soda - every once in a while without making it a routine. I think I have soda perhaps once or twice a month, if that, and each time it's perhaps a total of 16 oz. or so. There was a time when I couldn't do that, but now the lack of sugary carbonated beverage doesn't bother me. All I really drink these days is coffee in the morning, water during the day and wine during the evening, with perhaps a bit of juice here and there during the week.
Successfully cutting out soda and fast food from my regular routine, the next thing is exercise...and that's always the toughest thing. Danielle had a brilliant idea though that we'll hopefully start following through on more often. We go to Walmart frequently out here and it's really just down the road, maybe a mile and a half round trip. So last night, she decided we should walk there instead of driving, since what we were getting wasn't anything we'd need a car for. It's a start and when the weather gets nicer, it'll be even easier. Mind you, I'll still waiting for Wii Fit to release domestically - that'll be a big help too.
Doesn't mean I can't still have Taco Bell once in a while. I could really go for a Gordita right now.
